Find YourOnRamp...

Girlfriends it is now 2010.  What is on your list to accomplish this year?

Last year I heard so many women talk about getting back to work.  I would hear in round tables, my kids are in school and I really need to do something.  I am done volunteering in the classroom.  Now it is time for me.  But a lot of you out there never put action behind your words.  This is a new year with new opportunities.

The Motherhood Penalty

Are You Ready To Retire

Are you READY to retire?

By Kristin C. Harad, CFP®

With a crying baby or a two year old throwing a tantrum you may feel ready to retire on some days!  You may also have a hard time conceptualizing the relaxing vision of your “Retirement.”  Alas, the day will come when our little ones have grown up, and we will all be enjoying a new kind of independence----one that will hopefully last a long time!   The question is, “Will you be ready?”

Enjoy the Holidays without Financial Stress

As we barrel full-speed toward the holiday season, concern and anxiety about spending and finances are running high -- something being felt across many socio-economic lines. Even those who may seem to be in better financial shape are facing changes -- traditional yearly bonuses may not coming through; people are concerned about the future of a company and their job; mortgages are being reset. How can people prepare for this holiday season of celebration without overstressing themselves and their budgets?

Can We Still be Smart Investors?

Any other week would be a better one in which to write a financially-themed article.  While this article will be in the November issue, the context from which I write is immediately following the announcement that the House of Representatives voted NO on the Bailout plan.  We all know that this sent the stock market tumbling, causing many people to feel fear--- perhaps the first real time in our generation’s adult life (except maybe some from the dot com bust but that was “fun money” before we had families!!).

Looking 4 SAHM's getting college or grad degree's

Hi Everyone,

I'm working with a major media outlet on a story on stay-at-home moms who went to
college during their years at home for a MA, MBA, or JD, or a
graduate-level certificate program, and then were able to find a job in the
new career field. Please tell me your story of why you wanted to change
careers and how the additional education enabled you to make that
transition.  If you fit the bill and can share your story contact us.

Thanks,

Catherine

Money Magazine's Looking For OnRampers

Hi Everyone,

We've received an inquiry from Money Magazine. Please email Danielle if you wish to respond and please pass on to friends that might be interested.

MONEY Magazine is looking to do a story on moms returning to the workforce. We¹re looking for women who are just beginning to think about this prospect, and for whom the economy and possibly the insecurity or loss of a spouse's job have been a driving force. The person we choose to profile will get personalized advice from a career coach, as well as a financial planner.

Rebuilding our economy one startup at a time, Capital Factory is looking 4 start-ups

A friend of mine sent this to me and thought I'd pass along in case you were interested:

I am a mentor and investor in Capital Factory, a new seed capital and mentorship program in Austin. We're choosing 3 startups to spend 10 weeks here to build their company. They receive $20k in cash, $20k in free stuff, and 20 successful mentors as investors. The 10 weeks end in August with a Demo Day to potential investors. It's the mentor's job to ensure they head in the right direction, and introduce them to potential customers and investors.
