Business Week recently published a story titled, MBA Moms Most Likely to Opt Out: Check it out here
The findings of this study show that MBA moms are more likely to take career breaks than doctor or lawyer moms. A variety of reasons for this difference are hypothesized, including financial investment in the degree, family-friendliness of the work environment, and harder to define career trajectories.
I do know doctors and laywers who struggle with the same prejudices among their peers and co-workers when they choose to scale back their hours. Perhaps the financial and personal investment in a medical degree might compel you to work out a part-time arrangement rather than quitting. And, certainly, it is easier to go on your own as a doctor or lawyer or to find a smaller, flexible office arrangement with sufficient compensation. It is more difficult to go from corporate employment (where the majority of MBAs land) to a lucrative, flexible small business.
Any other thoughts or opinions out there?
