Continuous increases of gas prices have made us, consumers, search for alternative ways to save money at the pump. I am pretty sure that I was not the only one who turned to Internet for the answers. Just in a few minutes of Googling around I stumbled upon a number of great resources that helped me and my family save more than a few bucks since then.
Gasbuddy.com is the number one site for those who want to know about local gas stations with the lowest gas prices. Pick the state and the city and just in two clicks you will see a list of locations ordered by price. Maps and other additional information will help you locate the gas station closest to your home or place of work. Gas Buddy has proven to be a great aid for those who live in big cities. Mapquest has announced similar services through their site ( http://gasprices.mapquest.com/ ). The information presented by Mapquest seems to have a slight delay in presenting the information and may not be reflecting the current situation in some cases. However it covers smaller towns and could be used by travelers who try to save on their trips as they go.
Other gas saving ideas came from the site called PumpAndSave ( http://www.pumpandsave.com ). It is a simple site with tools to estimate your early gas spending (or even per road trip) considering your vehicle and current gas prices. It also contains a catalog of credit cards with rewards on gas purchases. According to the information presented at the site one can save up to 10% on gas if he uses one of the gas cards to pay for fill ups.
Yet another great concept to protect consumers from ever-growing prices of fuel is FuelBank (fuelbank.com). The idea behind this project is “fixing the future price you pay for fuel and protecting against future fluctuations in pump prices”. Currently this project is still in a planning stage. However it gets more and more attention from press and has been covered by many newspapers and TV stations around the country. Hopefully we will be able to take advantage of preserving gas prices and controlling our future plans.
These are some of the ideas I found to be useful for myself, my family, and my friends. I hope to save you some time by summarizing my findings in this short article. And perhaps my notes will also help you save some money at your next fill up.
