Consumer Confidence Falls After 3 months of Growth
If you are a retailer one thing is for sure, you need to keep your customers happy. In this economic climate more and more people have decided to make a conscious effort of spending less. For the past three months it seemed American’s were starting to spend more, and the consumer confidence was growing.
Well, the new stats are in and according to a research group, “the Consumer Confidence Index fell to 46.0 in February from 56.5 in January.” This could be due to many factors, one including the high unemployment rate. So what can you do as a retailer to stay ahead of the game?
Engage your audience
If your target audience is feeling a financial pinch, one way to keep them actively thinking of your brand is to remind them your still here. Social media is a great way for this. Keeping your customers engaged in your company can help them not forget you’re around.
Remember that people are saving money, but they are willing to keep spending on certain things. Make your brand one of those things. Although telemarketing services have gotten a bad wrap over the years, new tactics such as text messaging are coming into play. Sending a text to loyal customers about a sale could be beneficial.
Look where you can save
Saving money where you can is always helpful. Take a good look at your budget and see where there is room to save money. A lot of online marketing tactics cost little to no money at all.
If your company makes a lot of long distance phone calls, look into a VoIP phone system. These phone systems have been getting a lot of press recently and are very useful for anyone who makes a lot of long distance calls.
Be patient
It seems like the economy is on a non-stop roller coaster, but it will level out eventually. It is going to take some time, but consumers will be spending more again soon. Keep pushing your message out there and don’t let your customers forget about you. In the end your persistence should pay off and you will have come out of this economic slump with flying colors.

The cause of credit card reform might seem worthy, but it may not do exactly what many expect. As a result of the CARD act, credit card companies (though no one is shedding tears for them) are anticipating major drops in revenues, which is going to make borrowing money a little more difficult.
