Ready to Lead? Nonprofits have pool of experienced talent

Terry Nagel

Serving on the board of a nonprofit organization is a good way to demonstrate leadership skills.

The first wave of “next generation” of nonprofit leaders may be nonprofit executives and others now in their 40s and 50s, according to a new report on the nonprofit leadership gap.

The Holidays are a great time to help a homeless family!

Compass Community Services provides a comprehensive range of services to support families confronting homelessness and poverty to achieve stability and self-sufficiency. For families that are struggling, the winter holidays can be a difficult time. Every year we try to make them a bit brighter for the children and parents we serve through our Adopt-A-Family Project.

Junior League of San Jose - training women for leadership

Women who aren’t familiar with the Junior League often ask me to describe it when they find out I am a member. If they have any knowledge of our organization, they have the “pumps and pearls” picture of well-to-do homemakers sipping tea together and writing checks to worthy causes. In reality, the Junior League of San Jose (JLSJ) is an organization of dynamic, motivated women from all sorts of backgrounds, many of whom are juggling work, marriage, children and multiple volunteer activities.

Working to meet the educational needs of orphans in Kenya

During the summer of 2007 I spent 6 weeks in Kenya doing field work for Global Education Fund, a non-profit that meets the educational needs of orphaned children. June 2007:

80 year old Grandmother Helen's turn to reply

Millie, Halley, and all who responded to my evite within hours to come and celebrate by 80th birthday. I'd had 79 happy parties, and it was time to meet old age head on and do something fun with all ages, and hopefully worthwhile too. My inspiration came in church when I heard Millard Fuller, founder of Habitat for Humanity speak. He has since started Fuller houses in the South, but taking our large family to Alabama in the summer wasn't feasible so I settled for the local Habitat project.

Happy Birthday to an 80 Year Old

I don't know where to begin.....My mother in law, describing her, or to the event itself?  In short my mother in law is the most selfless, giving person.  For her 80th birthday, instead of doing something fancy in the town in which she grew up, Winnetka, Chicago, she decided to get our whole family, 18 people, together to build a house for Habitat for Humanity in San Diego.

My grandmothers 80th birthday!
